AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy)
While Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, and Siddha divisions of medicine are part of Indian civilization, Unani was originated in Greece, developed in Egypt, at present widely practised in Iran and introduced in India by Arabs, and Homeopathy evolved as a Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) in Europe, particularly in Germany. After India's independence, all these systems were brought under one umbrella as Indian Traditional Medicines and respective departments, academic institutions, and hospitals were also established.
In March 1995, The Department of Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy (ISM&H) was formed and it’s scope got enhanced. In November 2014, it was renamed as Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy).
Though historically the majority of Indians prefer the traditional Indian Systems of Medicine, due to lack of organised research and development as per national as well as international guidelines, manufacturing without following GMP guidelines, and most importantly, non-availability of adequate insurance coverage for treatments; the Indian Systems of Medicine are yet to reach their deserving position.
We are very keen to work with the respective government departments, manufacturers, and physicians to overcome the present situation and deliver more products and services as per national and international standards.
